A Look Back at the 2025 SCAA Mid-Year Meeting

Events

The South Carolina Aggregates Association (SCAA) made history this year by hosting its 1st Annual Mid-Year Meeting — and what a launch it was! Held at the stunning Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island, the event brought together over 200 attendees for several days of learning, networking, and celebration that set the tone for a strong future for our industry.

Southern Hospitality to Kick Things Off

The meeting opened in true Lowcountry style with the Linen & Lowcountry Dinner, featuring delicious coastal cuisine, live connections, and plenty of Southern charm. Attendees were greeted with a special gift sponsored by Martin Marietta, enjoyed cocktails courtesy of Orica, and savored a beachside feast made possible by ICBS and Quick Supply Co. Explosives Services. It was the perfect way to welcome members and set the stage for the week.

Learning & Leadership in Focus

Education sessions proved to be one of the most impactful parts of the event. Attendees heard from industry experts on topics shaping aggregates in South Carolina and beyond, including:

  • Economic Outlook with Ed Sullivan, The Sullivan Report
  • Legislative Update with Ben Homeyer, 1101 Public Affairs LLC
  • Trends & Regulatory Considerations with a dynamic panel moderated by Caleb Phillips (BL Harbert International LLC) and featuring Jessie King (Williams Mullen), Joe Bainbridge (HDR), and Spencer Kossl (BL Harbert International LLC)
  • Leadership Development with Greg Coker, Greg Coker Development

A big thank you goes to Reeves Construction Company for sponsoring the sessions and American Materials Company, LLC for sponsoring the keynote.

Friendly Competition & Unforgettable Nights

The Mid-Year Meeting also offered plenty of opportunities to connect and have fun:

  • A Cornhole Tournament, sponsored by Dobbs Equipment, brought out 16 teams of fierce (and friendly) competitors. Congrats to champions Tyler Moretto and Joe Bainbridge!
  • President’s Reception, sponsored by Heidelberg Materials, honored past and current SCAA presidents Elliott Botzis, Jim Thompson, and Brannon McGiboney.
  • Casino Night, with support from Blanchard Machinery, GeoLogic LLC, Luck Stone, and Vulcan Materials Company, delivered an evening of games, food, and camaraderie.
  • The Golf Tournament closed things out in style, with a full roster of sponsors making the day both fun and memorable.

A New Tradition Begins

From the opening dinner to the final round of golf, the week was filled with moments of connection, collaboration, and celebration. None of it would have been possible without the incredible support of our sponsors, speakers, board members, committee chairs, and volunteers who poured their time and energy into making this inaugural Mid-Year Meeting such a success.

With new ideas shared, friendships strengthened, and over 200 industry leaders in attendance, this first Mid-Year Meeting has set the stage for a lasting tradition. Here’s to continuing the momentum and building an even brighter future for South Carolina’s aggregates industry!
